MCU Characters That Sold Their Souls To Mephisto In Marvel Comics

This article contains spoilers For season 1 of “Ironheart”.

Living in the Marvel universe can sometimes feel like hell, but some characters have worsened when they turned to the devil to get help – well, the thing closest to the devil, at least. Mephisto clearly indicated that he was not the boss of the bottom, but he likes to pretend to be what the world knows under the name of Lucifer. Always a powerful demon, Mephisto made his debut in 1968 and has since concluded many agreements with the most intelligent, the most specific and powerful characters of Marvel, who have sometimes managed to thwart the twisted transaction he has prepared.

Given this mischievous activity in the comics and its beginnings at the MCU in “Ironheart” through a perfect performance by Sacha Baron Cohen, there is no problem that Mephisto could cause characters already established in films or television shows (or those about to make their first appearance). The devil has already been in the details of the MCU stories that came and disappeared and were inspired by the involvement of Mephisto in the comics. “Wandavision” had fans predicting his arrival almost every week, and “Spider-Man: No Way Way Home” pulled elements of the very embarrassed scenario of “One New Day”, Which could be explored further in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”. Keeping this in mind, here are some courageous souls who have agreed with the devil in the comics and some who still have a chance to make one in their live iterations.

Shalla-Bal, the silver surfer

Shalla-Bal, who will soon be played by Julia Garner in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, concluded an agreement with Mephisto in “Silver Surfer” # 3 to find his love lost for a long time, Norrin Rad, The Silver Surfer of Earth-616. The price was her total obedience to Mephisto, and by accepting, she was sent to Earth to find her lover crossed in stars, to be seriously injured in the ship in which she was transported.

Fortunately, the hero of the board of directors helped Shalla-Bal to recover, and after fighting Mephisto, they agreed to remain separated for the safety of each other and to stop the devil’s plans. However, the red villain persisted in causing trouble to Norrin Rad and his love, including a case where he dropped Shalla-Bal in the homeland of Doctor Doom of Latveria in “Fantastic Four” # 157 before the launch of a rescue, and he even forced the surfer to venture into hell to save his soul in “Silver Surfer / Warlock: Resurrection”.

Since Garner’s Shalla-Bal exists in a reality different from that of the MCU as we know him in the 1960s set “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, it seems unlikely that she and Maphisto come together anytime soon. That said, since The super team will enter the land-616 as revealed in the post-key scene “Thunderbolts *”Could the main universe Norrin Radd’s Silver Surfer and a variant of Shalla-Bal, thus setting up a possible meeting? Since Maphisto made his Marvel debut in the “Silver Surfer” comics, it would be a hell of a tribute to his origins and the two lives he tried to ruin several times.

Doctor Doom

The big bad guy could scare the Avengers upon arrival, but even the sovereign of the latteria used desperate measures to achieve his goals, in particular by turning to Mephisto to do the work. Linked to the demon Lord since birth after his mother, Cynthia von doom, sold his soul, Doom concluded an agreement with Mephisto later in life to bring her back from hell, using Doctor Strange as negotiation in “Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment” # 1.

At the beginning, Doom offered his own soul with the Supreme Wizard to save his mother from hell. However, the plan turned against him when Cynthia rejected the offer after learning what her son had done to be released, disappointed by his actions. Fortunately, Doom was not in a nasty mood at the time and had no real intention to give Strange to Mephisto, and consequently, the noble rejection of Cynthia to stay in the underground world led him to be released from his infernal prison and to rise in a better life after death.

It is a long time, but we bet that when Robert Downey Jr. will make his debut as Doom, he will be too busy destroying realities involving the Avengers and the X-Men to negotiate with the nasty disaster of Sacha Baron Cohen. Once the dust is adjusted, it could perhaps have time for Mephisto to share a screen time with at least one member of the von doom further.

dead Pool

If there is a person in the Marvel universe in addition to Mephisto with whom you should think twice before concluding an agreement, it is probably Wade Wilson. Among the many contracts made by the delicate devil over the years, he has created a particularly dark that Deadpool accepted and finally had to face. Fortunately, there was an escape in the documents that only the adorable madman would notice.

“Deadpool: The End” saw Wade revisiting an agreement he concluded with Mephisto at the end of time that demanded that he kill his daughter, Eleanor, to prevent his soul from facing eternal damnation. As the (bad) luck would do it, Eleanor showed up in Wade as a dying woman dying of cancer, just in time to prevent him from killing death, who, according to him, would prevent Eleanor from dying. However, her daughter told Wade that she had welcomed the end and even brought a black hole bomb to kill them both. The act essentially forced Eleanor to die because Wade did not give it any other option, thus fulfilling the contract. According to the Crackpot comic strip, “when my little girl was the weapon, I pressed the relaxation.”

It was these types of wilderness games that could have worked in the first ideas for “Deadpool & Wolverine”, ” When mephisto was initially considered the main villain in the film. Now that the two characters are in the MCU, we can only hope that Sharp Wit of Ryan Reynolds and Sacha Baron Cohen will be able to compete at another moment of the chronology of the MCU.

Agent Phil Coulson

He may have been out of the MCU for some time now, but agent Phil Coulson has long been active in the history of Marvel’s comics and has taken a very different path than being the only good eye for Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). During the event “Secret Empire”, in which it was revealed that Captain America had been a long -standing infiltrated hydrra agent, Coulson was the first to discover the conspiracy, but was assassinated by Deadpool (which is easily one of the worst things that Wade has ever done).

Seeing a chance to make things happen a bit, Mephisto resurrected Coulson, who returned with a hatred of heroes and a thirst for revenge. Phil concluded an agreement with Mephisto to work for him and help modify the universe, which led to the “Heroes Reborn” event. Consequently, the former agent became president, and the only hero left to “protect” the world was Hyperion. Fortunately, our original heroes managed to put things right, but for his problem, Coulson found himself trapped in the cube of the pandemonium. Lesson learned, Phil.

Although this is certainly an interesting direction for the MCU to explore if Coulson was still there, unfortunately, the dedicated agent and the hero of Clark Gregg has not been seen since “Captain Marvel” and shows no sign of return to the franchise. It’s probably a good thing. Seeing Robert Downey Jr. Return as bad in “Avengers: Doomsday” is one thing, but bringing Clark Gregg back as a corrupt Coulson would shake us in our hearts.

Black Panther (T’Challa)

The legendary Black Panther is the sovereign of a nation and one of the most intelligent people on the planet, so it is surprising that Mephisto really believed that he could ever thwart him. In “Black Panther” # 3, King T’Challa faced a coup in Wakanda led by the Reverend Achebe, who won power and an additional advantage of the Russian mafia and Mephisto. (NOW It is A wild combo.) To protect his nation, T’Challa agreed to abandon his soul to the villain of hell, fully aware that her legendary heritage in her line would keep the keys in security.

Thanks to the power of the god Panther, T’Challa’s soul was abandoned to Mephisto with souls of all black panthers before him. The powerful army of the ancestors turned out to be too much for the ardent enemy, making him ask that the agreement be quickly modified. T’Challa modified the agreement in his favor and recovered his soul within the framework of the agreement, reminding Maphisto only if he comes to the king, it is not better lacking (especially with regard to small print).

Of course, with the death of Chadwick Boseman, such a matter between King Wakandan and the royal pain of underworld cannot occur. That being said, with Shuri (Letitia Wright) always holding the title of Black Panther and her homeland always very connected to the beyond, unlike other parts of the MCU, it would be credible for mephisto to play with the new protector of Wakanda and to infiltrate the ancestral plan. It is better to be ready for what awaits him.
