Forget Deep Impact And Armageddon — Here Come Two Movies About People Swallowed By Whales
You feared that there is only one film to come where someone is eaten by a whale? Don’t worry. There are two, in fact.
Leslie Grace – a known actor and singer for “in the heights” and The film “Batgirl” that Warner Bros. deleted Of existence – should play in the next film by director Felipe Vargas “Propel” (by Variety), which is described as “Gravity” meets “127 hours under water”. Grace will play the Kate Acosta diver, who ends up swallowing with a huge sperm sperm while performing a commercial dive … and who must understand how to escape with his life.

What is particularly funny about this news is that “Whalefall”, a novel by Daniel Kraus, is also adapted in a major film. In March 2025, Deadline reported that Josh Brolin was in talks to join the casting of the project alongside Star Austin Abrams, with Brian Duffield (“No one will save you”) as director of the film. As I have already said, “Whalefall” follows a trajectory similar to that of “propel”. This time, a diving diver – played by Abrams – seeks the remains of his father, recently deceased, when he is swallowed by – you guessed it – a sperm. With only an hour to understand how to escape, the diver is stuck in a disastrous situation of life and death.

If you know everything, you know, the movies, you probably know that two films that come out at the same time with the same premise is not a whole new situation. This has actually happened for decades, so the good news to “propel” and “falls” is that they are in fairly good company.
Propel and Whalefall will join the “Movies Duel” temple
The phenomenon of “Duel Films” or “Twin Films”, certainly not new; In fact, the first known example of this occurred in 1920 when two versions of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” hit theaters. Since then, this has occurred a decent number of times, as in 1986, when “Top Gun” and “Iron Eagle” – two films on hunting pilots – were released, and the same year, “Platoon” and “Full Metal Jacket” told relatively similar stories on service in Vietnam. “Tombstone” and “Wyatt Earp”, which are both on EARP, released in 1993 and 1994, while “Showgirls” and “Striptease” published in 1995 and 1996. (I don’t think I need to explain the similarity there, right?)

Other famous examples include “Dante’s Peak” and “Volcano” in 1997, “Antz” and “A Bug’s Life” in 1998, and “Deep Impact” and “Armageddon” that same year. Even if it seems visible – and as something that the studios could have avoided – it keep just happeningAs when “Chasing Liberty” and “First Daughter” both explored the experiences of a fictitious first girl in the United States in 2004 and 2006 “The Prestige” and “The Illusionist” both presented a granular look at the world of practical magic (in the 19th century, in particular). When writing these lines, the most recent “twin films”, we can point two are probably the biopics “piece by piece” and “Better Man”, which were both released in 2024; The two tell stories of real musicians unexpectedly, that the story of Pharrell’s life is told via Lego or Lego animations Robbie Williams becomes a monkey in a biopic which is, if not, completely simple.

Anyway, neither “Propel” nor “Whalefall” still have a release date, but perhaps whale lovers will be offered to a perfect double feature film whenever the twin films released in theaters.
