Melissa Gilbert Details Past Tumultuous Romance With Rob Lowe
Melissa Gilbertsix-year relationship with the former friend friend ROB LOWE was full of ups and downs.
“I was such a baby when Rob and I were together,” said Gilbert, 61, on Tuesday, July 29, appearance on Jennie Garth‘s Podcast “I choose me”.
The former couple was 17 years old when they started going out together in 1981 (Gilbert was still playing Laura Ingalls Wilder Small house on the meadow at the time) and they “broke up for the last time” at the age of 23 in 1987.
“It was very tumultuous,” said Gilbert. “I felt like a little sage in the business at that time, because I had been doing it for so long.”
While Gilbert seemed to be a Hollywood veteran, Lowe’s career was just beginning.
“I was able, in a way, to sit and look at this dazzling climb occur. “I was prepared for everything that had to go to the first and things and price discounts and all this. But I was not prepared for the Fandom and, frankly, the girls. ”
Gilbert said at the time she believed that each girl “was my sister”, but it changed after Coming face to face with Lowe fans during their relationship.
“It was as if I didn’t exist. They moved me right in front of me and stick phone numbers in her pockets and all that,” continued the actress. “To say that it was disconcerting is to do it a bad service. It was horrible. I think I learned a lot about what did not work for me, in fact. And what I would not defend later.”

While Gilbert said that she and Lowe had “really, really, really funny moments”, their relationship brought her “truly precious and important lessons” overall.
“Looking back, I look at the way my life is so facilitated now. But I look at it at the time and I have the impression of being everything, as my shoulders were still standing by my ears,” said Gilbert. “While waiting for the next shoe to fall or something wrong or some, I don’t know, something unfortunate or disgusting.”
Following her separation from Lowe, the actress went with another star Bo brinkman. She and Brinkman, now aged 68, were married from 1988 to 1994. The following year, she and Bruce Boxleitner married. They were together from 1995 to 2011.
Gilbert confirmed her engagement to her husband now, Timothy BusfieldIn January 2013. They got married in April of the same year.
