A South Park Rip-Off Was So Successful That It Got Its Own Spin-Off
Central comedy “South Park” is known for its adult humor and irreverence shamelessly. It is not a series that anyone would never expect to see children again for children. However, in Kuwait, that’s exactly what happened. Not only was a Kuwaitian scam from “South Park” was developed for young public, but the series was so successful that it continued to generate a spin -off series – something that the real “South Park” has never achieved.
“South Park”, created by Trey Parker and Matt StoneRose of the humble beginnings. Parker and Stone created the world of “South Park” in two short animation films in the 1990s, made using a simple cardboard cutting animation. When one of these shorts has become viral – one of the first online videos to do so – the series was recovered by Comedy Central and arrived on television in 1997. “South Park” had success worldwide, throwing the foundations for the creation of “Block 13”, the flagrant “South Park” of the Kowait.
“Block 13” was created by Nawaf Salem Al-Shammari and made its Kuwait television debut in 2000. The series was developed After “South Park” was bannedPerhaps not surprisingly, in Kuwait for its offensive jokes on Islam. “Block 13” has copied many conceptions of “South Park” characters, although the clothes of the characters have been changed to better reflect Kuwait. Instead of imitating “South Park’s adult humor,” Block 13 “was intended for families and children of all ages. The series only worked for 3 seasons, but was popular enough for it to always be released on Kuwait television in each Ramadan.
The Kuwait South Park scam launched a spin-off
Although “Block 13” only takes place for 3 seasons, the series was a huge success in Kuwait. It was also an important series for the country, in that it was the first animated series ever produced in the Arab states of the Persian Gulf. Like “South Park”, the series has dealt with current real world problems affecting its audience through comedy, although very tamper. And while “Block 13” was targeting the younger audience, his humor has not completely lost his advantage. Abboud, the version of Eric Cartman’s series, was always subject to jokes on its weight, while Saloom, the version of the series of Kenny McCormick, was still regularly killed in ridiculous accidents.
After the end of “Block 13”, the series generated the spin-off “Qatouta and Kaloob” in 2003. The series followed Qatouta, a purple cat, and Kaloob, the honey company on “Block 13” (maybe an amalgam of “Craig Tucker and Butters of” South Park “. The series also presented a handful of appearances “Block 13”. Although a second season has been planned and due to the air on Alrai TV, the budgetary constraints have led to its cancellation.
Although “Qatouta and Kaloob” do not launch a season 2, the success of “Block 13” continued. The series received a restart, entitled “13th Street” in 2022. The series presents a more polite animation style and brings together many creators of “Block 13”. The series still works on VO, Dubai TV and Dubai Streaming Platform, Awaan.
