Why Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six Movie Was Canceled
A little over a decade ago, Sony Pictures undertook to develop the “Amazing Spider-Man” franchise in an entire cinematographic universe. From 2012 with the restart of Marc Webb, which featured the nominees of the Oscars Andrew Garfield as a holder Webhead, the studio had ambitious expansion plans with the coming continuation as well as a multitude of spin-off films which were in development. Although “The Amazing Spider-Man” did not receive the most enthusiastic reception of criticism and fans compared to “Spider-Man” from Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire a decade earlier, people were always interested in seeing what Webb and Garfield had in reserve. He offered a chance for this new restart to distinguish himself without having to follow again the story of proven origin.

Unfortunately, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” was a global disappointment. The film received mixed criticism, criticized for its disorderly tone and a script that rocked studio interference. To be fair, the first “Amazing Spider-Man” also had a script that looked like a studio notes product, but distribution performance, especially the chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, helped him stand out despite the intermediate script. As for the rest, some brilliantly designed action sequences and an emotionally powerful highlighting point could not save a film with such a weak script and ridiculously bad antagonists like Jamie Foxx’s electro (which sometimes felt like the second coming of the Riddler of Jim Carrey of “Batman Forever”).

This did not help that this sequel be supposed to be the launching ramp of what was going to be a greater franchise with fallout – including a film “Sinister Six” which was going to be written and directed by the director “Cabin in the Woods” Drew Goddard.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 teased a sinister film that has never been produced
One of the many weaknesses of “Amazing Spider-Man” films was their penchant to tease future suites and fallout with very little payment. A large part of the mystery built in the two films considered what happened to the parents of Peter Parker, Who would have culminated in a now removed scene from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” with the confusing return of Peter’s father. The rest has also set up new bad guys for future films – in particular the Sinister Six. The film ended with Harry Osborn / Green Goblin (Dane Dehaan) in recovery in the Retraction Prison, while he and his Particular Gustav Partner (Michael Massee) discuss their plans for a new team to face Spider-Man.

Gustav Proud is seen in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” walking in a window of windows containing accessories such as the tentacles of Doc Ock and the wings of the vulture. On the basis of these revelations, it is clear that at least these two bad guys would have been part of the Sinister Six, which was to be led by the Green Goblin. As for the other three members of the team, perhaps the Rhinoceros (Paul Giamatti) would have made the team. And, on the basis of the possible plans of Sony for these characters, years, Mysterio, Morbius and Kraven the Hunter could also have been involved.
Drew Goddard wrote the script for the film “Sinister Six” proposed, and although he has not yet seen daylight, His intention for the project was that he would talk about the Marvel Comics summer annuals. Although her scenario was originally written for the “Amazing Spider-Man” franchise, the enthusiasm of producer Amy Pascal for that meant that it could have survived another restart. Pascal previously expressed his hope This Goddard would come back to bring the project back to life, perhaps as part of the Spider-Man universe of Sony films like “Venom” and “Madame Web”. In the end, “Sinister Six” was never produced because the new Sony agreement with Marvel Studios to bring Spider-Man into the MCU was finalized in 2015, ending the “Amazing Spider-Man” franchise

Spider-Man: No way to return has given us the nearest Sinister six action
To date, we have not yet seen an appropriate iteration of Sinister Six in any film “Spider-Man”. The closest thing we came was in “Spider-Man: No Way Way Home”, which assembled Dr Otto Octavius / Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), Norman Osborn / Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Flint Marko / Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Max Dillon / Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Dr Curt Connors / LIZARD (Rhys Ifans). Obviously, it is only five bad guys, but he has six by a technicality: Eddie Brock / Venom (Tom Hardy) is presented in the film of Mid-Credits of the film, to be returned to his respective universe. Brock leaves a bit of his symbiote behind in the MCU, however, leaving the door open so that it is used in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”.

It is weird revisiting the Duology “Amazing Spider-Man” by Sony. Although the films do not have their ambitions, it is clear that there were a few pieces in the puzzle which were worth preserved. The weather was particularly nice to Andrew Garfield, who has proven himself as a best actor to have ever played Spider-Man. While his films had dull scripts, Garfield’s commitment to the character was undoubtedly clear, and his passion for the role continues to date. Although most fans were more than happy to leave the films “Amazing Spider-Man” in favor of the new iteration of the Marvel cinematographic universe with Tom Holland as Peter Parker, a new affection for Garfield reappeared when he returned to “Spider-Man: No Way Way Home”. Garfield’s performance in particular has received universal praise from criticism and fans, which served him a well -deserved redemption after the disappointing conclusion of his series.

Although Garfield is busy pursuing new projects, he expressed interest in returning as Spider-Man. Obviously, his experience with “Spider-Man: No Way Home” helped to cure some old wounds from the disappointing conclusion of his series of films. Before his initial departure of the franchise, Garfield had meetings with Drew Goddard about “Sinister Six”, and on the basis of what he heard, he radiated in excitation for what Goddard had planned. As he said Collider::
“I do not know how close it has become, but I definitely had some meetings, and it was really exciting. I must say, because I love Drew so much, and I love” Cabin in the Woods “, and the other things he did. We have just launched me like a fire house. I loved his vision, he was so unique and strange and not conventional.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” by Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will embark on theaters on July 31, 2026.
